Webinar: Mapping the Sex Buyer Journey

Posted by on October 30, 2017 in CEASE Network

In this CEASE Network (Cities Empowered Against Sexual Exploitation) webinar, coordinators Bianca Morales-Egan of San Diego and Angie Bayless of Phoenix take participants on a “sex buyer journey” to explore some of the primary cultural and social forces that may influence men to buy sex. A concept used in sales and marketing, a buyer journey analyzes the steps, emotions, opportunities, tools, and information needed for someone to make a decision to purchase a product. The presenters share a series of influences and opportunities throughout a lifetime that may lead someone to buy sex.

Angie and Bianca brought the initial prototype (created by participants at a Google-sponsored design workshop in San Diego) to the May CEASE Network convening, where coordinators provided feedback based on their expertise. The sex buyer journey can help identify key points for intervention and deterrence, including tactics already developed, tested, and refined by members of CEASE. The pathway reiterates the importance of a strategic multisector approach.
